Statement of Need/Program Overview:

This continuing medical education course is designed to address professional practice gaps for practitioners in the field of spinal surgery. Keeping abreast of current techniques, technological trends, and practice recommendations is important for the advancement of patient outcomes amongst providers in this discipline. The aim of this course is to utilize thought leaders on the local and national level to address gaps in knowledge of up to date clinical practices and in the process of collaborating on care practices to improve patient outcomes of those undergoing spinal procedures. This two-day course will present the relevant information for providers to improve patient care, with the opportunity to participate in cadaveric training sessions throughout the course. Sessions will address anatomic considerations from the cranium to the sacrum with perspectives from orthopedic and neurosurgeons. 

Objectives:

Upon conclusion of this two-day course providers should be able to:

• Examine and discuss the best treatment practices for cervical, thoracic, and lumbar procedures, implemented through; minimally invasive surgeries, spinal tumors, spinal deformity, as well as, the avoidance of preoperative and postoperative complications

• Utilize the up-to-date Adult Deformity Classification and Sagittal Parameters in the treatment of complex spinal deformity patients

• Develop forward-thinking, evidence-based, treatment strategies for the appropriate treatment of spine-related pain

• Consider new techniques and surrounding controversies and apply the information to enhance future clinical decision-making practices
